iPad 2 Thinner, faster and lighter Ever

Apple iPad 2 Top Rated Computer Tablet

The computer tablet market over the last year has been the exclusive territory of the Apple iPad as no other tablets offered similar capabilities or features. As 2011 passes by the competition is finally starting to mount in the tablet market. Despite the release of many promising tablets in the past few months, Consumer Reports found that the iPad 2 was still the best. The model they chose for top ranking comes equipped with WiFi and 3G access.

The runner up, coming closest to the quality of the iPad 2, was the Motorola Xoom. The 10-inch screen is just as bright and colorful as its rival, but built-in conveniences like Flash support and a memory card reader makes this tablet come very close to taking the top spot. The iPad does not support flash, leaving many users unhappy when they want to access a video or game made in this common web format.

Apple’s product is not only winning in quality tests, but its pricing structure is fair as well. This is somewhat of a departure from their otherwise premium prices. Consumer Reports speculates that this is due to the rising competition in the tablet field, while Apple’s other products like the iPod and iPhone have few real competitors and plenty of devoted fans.

The tablet rankings included models from Motorola, ViewSonic, Archos, Dell, Samsung and several other Apple models. 17 different tests were preformed, measuring everything from touch-screen sensitivity to ease of use. Apple and Motorola models preformed well in all tests, but some lower rated tablets like the Dell Streak 7 failed badly in the battery-life test. The iPad 2 ran a looped video clip for over 12 hours before powering down, but the Streak didn’t last 4 hours. A short battery life greatly reduces the portability and convenience of a tablet computer.
