Facebook, Video chat, and BBM for the BlackBerry PlayBook

For the owners of the BlackBerry Play Book phone , we have some very exciting news for them today - is that your tablets are about to get treated to a trio of apps that surely nobody will pass on. Honestly, we were expecting to see them running on RIM's tablet on the day of its very release, but you know what they say better late than never. So which applications are we talking about exactly.

BlackBerry Messenger for BlackBerry PlayBook

Yes, BBM now runs on the PlayBook too. Turns out that the application has been there all along, we were simply not allowed to use it yet. BlackBerry Messenger is now fully functional thanks to today's BlackBerry Bridge update to version 1.0.0.83. Unfortunately, that means you are still stuck with using the messenger through a BlackBerry smartphone instead of running it independently on the tablet itself. For now it seems like the update is only compatible with BlackBerry OS 6, but an OS 5 version should not be too far off.

Black Berry Play Book now Video Chat

Why limit's  yourself to text messaging through BBM when you can turn a dialog into a video call? Now you can do this with the new BlackBerry PlayBook Video Chat application. All you need is a Wi-Fi network, which is connected to the internet, and a buddy to talk with. Oh, we should also mention that it only seems to work between PlayBooks for now. The application features a friends list where you can store your contacts as long as you know their BBID email address. You will be able to check out BlackBerry PlayBook Video Chat as soon as it is made available tomorrow so keep an eye for an OTA update notification.

PlayBook BlackBerry With Facebook
:
In these days mobile is nothing without Facebook. RIM has just announce today that a new social network client – Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook, will be made available for download from this month, and that a sneak preview of it will be given this week at BlackBerry World 2011. The application will be optimized for the tablet's 7-inch display and will also take advantage of its HDMI connectivity so that photos and videos can be easily viewed on an HDTV. Users will be able to search for and to add friends, to tag and to “like” photos and comments, to use Facebook's chat feature – just like on a desktop computer.

Gingerbread ROM Update for the T-Mobile My Touch 4G leaked

If you are one of those people who enjoy playing  with their smartphone, For them ,one of the latest spicy ROM leaks over here  an Android 2.3.3 build for the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, but  though the software is not official released yet , it does give us a little hint, that an update for the myTouch 4G to Gingerbread might be coming soon.

One of the notice able tweaks is that ,we see in the leaked ROM is a Quick Settings tab found in the pull-down notification bar. It lets you easily turn the smartphone's Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, cellular network, and hotspot feature on and off eliminating the need for having a dedicated widget for that. Other than that, the user interface experience looks and feels pretty much the same, as you can see in the video below.

Feedback of user's regarding the leaked Gingerbread build , has been quietly mixed with some people reporting about Wi-Fi issues and stability problems. On the other hand, others seem to be having no troubles at all and are saying that their myTouch 4Gs are running smoothly. If you feel like giving the ROM a shot, please, be careful and back up your data first.

Mobile phone's shipments of First Q of this year reaches over 370 million:

Top Five Mobile phone shipments:

This year  reached about 371.8 million in  first quarter of this year and the most important thing is that  the top five phone manufacturers haven't changed, other phone makers have managed to squeeze out the most of the situation and gain market share, according to data from market analysts IDC.

The big five position is  still headed by Nokia, which managed to sell 108.5 million handsets, translating into a 29.2% market share, down from 34.7% in the same period last year, and the  Samsung is  second-largest phone maker, with a total of 70 million handsets or 18.8% of the market, a healthy grow over the 64.3 million units the company shipped in the first quarter of 2010.

Only loser is LG Electronics in the top five phone makers ranking which is third with 24.5 million shipped phones, or 6.6% share, down from 27.1 million in Q1 2010. It's also trailed by Apple, which managed to push 18.7 million iPhones in the quarter and capture a 5.0% share, but the company is the only one represented exclusively with high-end devices. ZTE is also showing growth with 15.1 million shipped handsets granting the Chinese company a global share of 4.1%.

Other manufacturers have grown their share also , and we would look for the reason in Nokia's transition plan, which seems to have opened a lot of opportunities for other companies.

RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930

RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 are the announcement many of 'BlackBerry's  fans are  waiting for  a powerful touchscreen candybar with the signature keyboard. Featuring a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor and a 2.8-inch "Liquid Graphics" VGA screen with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, the performance of the handsets should be excellent. While we're yet to decipher the Liquid Graphics part, it seems that it's the high-pixel density (287dpi) and expected framerates of around 60fps for graphical apps and games that justify the name.

Both models run with the newest BB OS 7, but the BlackBerry Bold 9900 (AT&T, T-Mobile) comes with HSPA+ 4G with (supporting 14.4Mbps on the downlink) on board, while the Bold 9930 (Verizon/Sprint) is a global device coming with quad-band GSM and dual-band CDMA to support virtually every network out there.

But most important thing is that, the new additions are coming with an improved QWERTY keyboard feeding on your texting addiction. The new handsets are very slim at just 10.5mm, easily becoming the thinnest by RIM so far, and look traditionally well-made with a brushed stainless steel frame and a high-gloss glass-weave back. In terms of functionality, RIM has added an NFC chip, that could be used for mobile payments, as well as support for Augmented Reality applications.

The handsets also featuring with  a 5-megapixel camera with flash-equipped with  720p HD video recording and 8GB of internal storage. If all that sounds alluring, you won't be disappointed with the release date. While a specific date wasn't pointed out, the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930's release date should be sometime "this summer."

Motorola launching laptop-dock compatible devices in H2 2011

The Motorola announced to launch more  Laptop Dock like ATRIX 4G was one of the most innovative gadgets we saw at CES.Only to underwhelm us with its price when it was released later in March. But the disappointing price and slightly laggy performance, shouldn't bring the whole idea down,

"In  Android ecosystem, there is need for us to differentiate," Jha said. "[With] Atrix devices with the Webtop and lap-dock we really think there is an alternative way of viewing the convergence between mobility and computing. And we will continue to focus on that," he answered an analyst's question.

They that "You will see some multiple devices from us in the second half...of this year and we will also expand the range of our lap-dock devices so we cover a broader price point, addressing both the enterprise premium tier as well as more consumer tiers," Jha added.

The Motorola ATRIX 4G Laptop Dock won't cut it to a full-blown netbook, but it was a big step in that direction. As Moto promises updates to its Webtop software and with quad-core smartphones in the works, we can easily see it turning into an even more appealing accessory.

Qualcomm 3rd-gen Snapdragon MSM8660:

Qualcomm before this showed us the 3rd generations's  Snapdragon chips back in January, and we've seen some benchmarks also confirm's about its rock and solid performance and nearly double improvement in it's graphics, but now that the mobile development platform (MDP) is out, you can see the future of smartphones for yourself. The prototype, which is available through Bsquare for $1350, should capture your attention mostly if you're a developer as its not meant for commercial use, but rather for software development.

Now The third generation dual-core Snapdragon MSM8660 does make playing back full HD 1080p videos and HTML5 in your browser a breeze. The spec sheet proves that the processor's clock on the MSM8x60 could be set to as much as 1.5GHz and it comes with Adreno 220 graphics.

Nokia N8 hot pink

We heard some new news  that  - the Nokia N8 - is about to appear in one more flashy color, red, but turns out pink has been first on the line, or just those who let it out couldn't tell pink from red.

To recap the specification's, the Nokia N8 sports is with  3.5-inch AMOLED display, with amazing 12-megapixel camera with Xenon flash and has HDMI port for outputting these 720p HD videos you capture. A unique feature combo is USB-on-the-Go, together with an FM transmitter. The drawback is that it's running Symbian, which only supports the lowly 360x640 screen resolution to boot.

So “Following the fantastic response for range of colors so for we  launched for the Nokia N8, it seemed a natural step to extend this choice. The Nokia N8 in pink complements the original line up well with its expressive, intense hue.”, says Rachael Bell, a senior designer at Nokia.

AT&T Selling Refurbished Apple iPad 3G

Taking a quick view on AT&T’s web site today, bargain shoppers will undoubtedly be surprised to find refurbished first-generation iPad 3G models selling for  $329 – and they didn't  mention that is there is no contract required for it. Considering the fact that it’s only $30 more than what Verizon is asking for their brand new 16GB Wi-Fi only model, some will surely take notice and find its price point very affordable; despite being a refurbished model.

Though, it appears that they’re currently sold out of the 16GB model right now, but you can still pick up the 32GB and 64GB refurbished models for a respectable $429. Still, we find to see that both models are priced the same, but it would be better to see the 32GB version moving into the $329 pricing that’s currently occupied by the 16GB one.

So if you’re to overlook the refurbished model's of the tablets, you can snag yourself a truly affordable iPad 3G model.
