We got the chance to check out HTC's HD7S, an AT&T updated version of T-Mobile's HD7. HTC has claimed that this smartphone is the ultimate mobile gaming device, since it features a large, 4.3-inch touchscreen display.
The 'S' in the HD7S' name presumably stands for "super", because the only material difference between the HD7 and the HD7S is the use of a new Sony Super LCD display, which puts the capacitive touch layer directly on the display layer, getting rid of the air gap that reduces contrast and hinders outdoors visibility. Of course there's also some minor color differences on the rear cover on the HD7S, but the only thing that really matters is the noticeable improvement the Super LCD offers when viewed next to the original.
The 5.7-ounce HD7S sports dimensions of 121.9mm x 68mm x 11.1mm (4.8in x 2.68in x .44in), and will come with latest Windows Phone 7 software. In addition to the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, the HD7S also features a 5 megapixel, 720p HD video capable camera, with dual-LED flash, and a convenient kickstand.
AT&T U-Verse customers will be able to download and watch TV shows on the HTC HD7S thanks to the U-Verse mobile app that will be pre-loaded on the device. Non-U-verse customers will have to pay an extra $9.99/month to use the app. Pricing has yet to be determined, but according to HTC, the HD7S will be available "in the coming weeks."
